Handshake between Dr. Henrietta Mann (Native American tattoo) and woman from the United Methodist Church (New symbol of the church "Open Doors, Open Hearts" tattoo). This was taken at the Rocky Mountain UMC Conference in Pueblo, Co. The title of the Conference was Healing Relationships. The UMC invited descendants of the Sand Creek Massacre, which was the 150th anniversary. This was important to the church because Col. Chivington, whom led a 700 man Cavalry that slaughtered most of the peaceful Native Americans that were camped at a US Military designated location for peaceful relations, was himself a Methodist Minister. The reports of the massacre as well as the atrocities committed by his men were documented. The UMC took the opportunity to extend a hand and to try and start the process of healing with the Native American community.
